The days of flipping through the yellow pages to find local business are numbered. Today, it’s far easier to do a quick search online as major search engines continue to enhance their local indexes.
One in four Google searches are local and major companies like Google, Twitter and probably Facebook (in the near future) are competing for small business advertising revenue. In an attempt to become the premier source for local info Google has unveiled their new “Places” which includes a host of new features allowing you the capabilities to create your own Places page which will show up in searches for local businesses.
With the new page you’ll be able to enter your office location, contact info, hours of operation, a description as well as photos and even YouTube videos. Searches show up on a Google Map above the typical search queries and are sorted randomly so your page is guaranteed to see results. Their are also a variety of tools allowing you track and monitor search results.
Best of all, Place listings are free with the option of building premium pages coming in the future.
